A former police reporter with a marketing background, Elise moved to nearby Maplewood in 2001 and has gratefully come to Dr. S as her vet since then. She loves what Dr. S does so much that she started working here on Saturdays. You’ll find her welcoming you at the front desk.

“My house is like one big furball,” says Elise. “My husband and I are there mostly to move toys around and put out food for the cats.” It’s always play time. In the middle of the night, a chase will start. It’s a crazy, fun house. The tuxedo cats are called the hooligans. They’re from four different rescues. All were nursed to health. The cats are all people-friendly.

Elise believes in top shelf food and her top shelf vet.

In Brief

Mox, our office cat a.k.a. Security Officer, was born in Jersey City. He lived there the first few years of his life. Unfortunately, his human was going to send Mox to a shelter. Dr. S met Mox and decided to keep him temporarily. He wouldn’t survive in a shelter because he didn’t respond well to a cage. Eventually Mox became an office cat. A little more about Mox, in case you want to know what motivates this handsome guy:

  • Mox likes to fetch.
  • Mox loves dogs and likes to play with them.
  • Mox’s day starts with sitting on a chair every morning and looking at the traffic and the birds. He’s pretty Zen.
  • Mox will nip if you push his boundaries. But friendly nips, not aggressive.
  • Mox is discriminating about his friendliness towards other cats.
  • Mox likes catnip.

Mox’s Trademark Ear

Mox was born with a defective ear. A previous vet tried to do surgery and when a part of the ear fell off, the owner said, that’s it, enough. Now he’s a Van Gogh type. His hearing’s not affected and he’s not in pain; it’s a battle wound. Mox and his ear are paid tribute in our logo.

The Cats in the Basement, Bloggers

Working with Dr. Sepulveda

1.5 years

In Brief

The Cats in the Basement (see the “Cats in the Basement Blog” on this site) are Reba and Leo Patrick Winthorpe III. They’re not siblings, although they’ve got that thing going on where couples start to look like each other. Right? They each came to Glen Rock Vet in their own destined way.

You can read more about each of their dramatic stories on the blog. Scroll down after the blog entries to find the links.

Reba came from a house chock full of unhealthy cats, a hoarder’s house and was rescued and brought to us by Jennifer. Leo was abandoned when someone moved and left him behind without food or litter. He found us through the sister of a friend of Dr. S’s.

As they were both weak and being brought back to health, one day they started playing together and haven’t stopped since. Now they’re happily co-creating a blogging career. Who knows where these two will go next.
